Museums The museums alone are worth the short drive to San Jose. At the Jade Museum you’ll find collections of pre-Columbian art in gold, ceramic, jade and stone. It’s the only museum where you’ll find indigenous jade artwork in the Americas. The Gold Museum will dazzle you with one of the most valuable museum collections in the world. But that’s not all. There are museums dedicated to modern art, snakes, butterflies, even a somewhat gruesome criminology museum. For more information on Costa Rican museums, visit Costa Rica.com. Festivals Don’t miss the great local festivals ... they’re next door to your new home at Aquila Point . The biggest fling is July 25, when locals celebrate “El Dia de la Anexion,” the day the Guanacaste Province (where Hacienda del Mar is located) was annexed to Costa Rica. Enjoy the parades, horse shows, cattle auctions, rodeos, fiestas and marimba bands. And don’t forget the bull fights during the last week of February for “Fiestas Civicas de Liberia.” Here are a few more to remember: JANUARY 10 Patron saint’s feast, Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, Santa Cruz FEBRUARY Last weekend in February, Civic festivals in Liberia APRIL Good Friday, Lagarteada (crocodile hunt) in Ortega de Bolsón, Santa Cruz JULY 25 Nicoya Chorotega Tourism Expo-fair and Expoliberia, Guanacaste 25. Ask for classic Gallo Pinto (spotted rooster), a dish of rice and beans seasoned with coriander, onions and Worcestershire sauce with scrambled or fried eggs (it’s usually served for breakfast). You’ll enjoy the Agua Dulce, pure sugar cane with hot water, or the world famous, locally-grown Costa Rican coffee. But that’s only the beginning. Main dishes of sticky rice, Chorizo sausage and pork stew will fill you well. Tapas plates of fried plantains, peach palm, minced vegetable pear with corn and string beans with beef provide variety. And don’t forget to try Horchata, Pnolillo or Resbaladera, drinks made with ground ice, cinnamon, corn, cocoa and barley. You'll find this great local food along with everything from fast food to five-star dining right near your home at Hacienda del Mar.
