   History

This small Central American country has earned its status as a premier luxury destination. Its sound economy, stable democracy for over a half century and low property taxes of only 0.25% of value combine for an extremely attractive investment opportunity. Foreign citizens can own property with no impediments. With more teachers than police officers, 96% of the population is literate. Housing in this country is known for its great value and the cost of living is unusually low. Health insurance is available for Americans while medical costs average nearly half what it would cost for the same procedure in the United States.

Americans feel at home here. Nearly 92% of Costa Rica’s highly educated population speaks English, and the American dollar is accepted everywhere. Citibank corporation recently acquired the country’s banking system. Many U.S. companies do business here. This friendliness towards Americans and their business has resulted in almost 1% of the 3.5 million residents being U.S. citizens.

Fully one third of the country is protected by national parks as well as forest and marine reserves. Here you’ll find monkeys, quetzals, toucans and leatherback turtles, among others. Pristine rainforest and crystal clear waterfalls mark the high inland country where two active volcanoes and a large freshwater lake are to be found. The highest peak rises nearly 13,000 feet above sea level This lofty interior region is home to some of the best coffee plantations in the world, while lower
coastal areas with their more temperate climate are famed for their banana production.

The Atlantic and Pacific Oceans embrace Costa Rica’s coasts and produce balmy temperatures ranging between 75-85 degrees, with 266 days of sunshine per year. Particularly attractive is the complete absence of hurricanes.
